Phelps Eyes Big Money Shows To End Late Season Slump
(9/27/09) –
After a very successful season, it is no secret that the Big Red Towing #99 has found itself in a few rough spots late in the season. With two races left on the schedule, the team hopes to finish the season on a postive note. The Victoria 200 at Fulton Speedway could be a great place to rebuild some momentum on October 3rd. Ryan finished 5th in last seasons $20,000 to win race and hopes build off his success this year to cash in on another big pay day. The team is also awaiting a rebuilt Enders Syracuse engine to debut at the 50,000 plus dollar to win Super Dirt Week races on October 7th-11th.

All eyes were on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds for the
richest event in 54 years of racing in Weedsport and when
the curtain finally dropped Sunday evening on the inaugural
edition of DIRTcar All-Star Weekend it was rising star Ryan
Phelps etching his name in history with a command
performance in the ‘All-Star 100’ that rewarded him with a
record $20,000 payoff at the birthplace of DIRTcar Big-Block
Modified Racing.

Capturing his first career Super DIRTcar Series victory just
24 earlier at the storied 3/8-miler in the ‘All-Star 50’
preliminary event, Phelps proved it was no fluke by
overtaking pole-sitter Matt Sheppard past the halfway point
then holding off a late-race rally by Tim Fuller to post a
dramatic win in front of a capacity crowd on this landmark
occasion.
“This is great, just unbelievable,” remarked Phelps, 25, as
he struggled to find the words to describe easily the
biggest triumph of his budding career steering the Big Red
Towing no. 99 Dave Miller Auto Body/Bicknell entry in
DIRTcar Racing Northeast’s premier tour for Big-Blocks in
the nation. “I’m really speechless.”

Big Races on the Horizon
This
weekend kicks off a series of several big Super Dirtcar
Series races. I'm happy with where we have come so far this
year. We already have ten top fives on the year, which is
more than our team has ever had in an entire season. We've
got a win under our belt and we also just scored ourselves a
new Bicknell chassis that we plan to debut Friday night at
Ransomville. This next stretch of our season is going to
feature some really great shows and some great race tracks.

(5/1/09)
After knocking on the door numerous times to kick of the
2009 season, Ryan showed just how strong his Big Red Towing

position, Ryan was able to pass some really good cars and
finally grabbing the lead on lap 27 from the #56 of Vinnie
Vitale. The low side proved to be in great shape and the
Rocket used it to his benefit. Ryan was able to hold on the
remaining laps to claim win #1 for 2009.

Knocking on Door
(From the Syracuse Post-Standard
on 3/26/09)

(3/26/09)
There are three types of drivers who will be competing in
this weekend's Super DIRTCar Series opener in Hagerstown,
Md.
There are those who unload their race hauler knowing they
have the skills and the equipment to win on any given night.
At the other end of the spectrum are the many still
searching for their first win and hoping to gain a
reputation in the sport by making that trip to victory lane.
Then there are folks like Ryan Phelps. The 24-year-old
Fulton native and Newark Central Schools history teacher is
beginning his seventh season in modified competition. He is
one of those guys who is on the cusp of being a top driver,
and he comes from a racing family.
Ryan is beginning his seventh season in modified competition
and has two feature wins, the most recent coming at Can Am
in 2007. He knows the competition is tough, but he also
knows he is improving with every lap.
"I've spent a lot of years slowly progressing in
trying to get to be one of the top DIRT guys that you always
look up to as a little kid," he said. "I don't know that I'm
there yet, but I do think that we're really getting closer
than we've ever been to being there. Now, whether that means
I've got another handful of years before we can get there or
not, I don't know."
