Good Showing at Utica-Rome - June 9-10
The Big Red Towing 99 finished 4th this weekend at the
Utica-Rome Speedway. Ryan Phelps, who started in the 2nd
spot fell to 4th near the start of the race. Phelps would
make his way around Andy Bachetti on lap five and set his
sites on top running Billy Shantel Jr. Phelps made repeated
attempts at Shantel as his car seemed to get better as the
race went on. Phelps would bobble badly on a restart with a
couple of laps remaining and fall directly to fifth. He
would end up finishing in the 4th position. The team heads
to Can-Am this Saturday, and Utica-Rome again next Sunday.
Heartbreaking weekend for 99 team - May 25-May 27
This weekend, the
Big Red Towing 99 competed at the Can-Am Motorsports Park on
Saturday night and the Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday.
Saturday, the team was forced to pit multiple times on a
rough racing surface. They ended up salvaging a poor 11th
place run. Sunday, the team competed at Utica-Rome. After
leading the majority of the race, Ryan Phelps looked to be
on his way to his first win of the 2007 season. With just
five laps to go Phelps led the field across the line on a
restart. Running a low gear ratio, Phelps needed roughly a
lap to get momentum up before he could scoot away from
second place AJ Romano. Before he could do this, Romano
lunged under Phelps in a "Slide for life" that would end up
taking both cars out of the race. Romano was put the the
rear for the contact. The 99 team will be back in action
Saturday night at the Can-Am Motorsports park for the 5-Star
Mini Series Race and Sunday evening at the Utica-Rome
Speedway.
Consistent Weekend for Team Big Red - May 11-May 13
The 99 team took
home two solid 7th place runs this weekend. Saturday night,
at the Can-Am Motorsports Park, Phelps ran against a solid
field of cars. After fierce battles with Danny Johnson,
Frankie Caprara and last weeks winner, Vic Coffey, Phelps
finished the race in 7th position. Sunday, in the 75 lap ROC
Special, Phelps also finished 7th in a very tough field of
cars. Phelps spent much of the race dueling with the likes
of Alan Johnson and Matt Sheppard. The team will be back in
action Friday night at the Thunder Alley Speedpark, Sunday
at the Utica Rome Speedway and next Tuesday at the Fulton
Speedway.
Rainy Weekend for 99 Team - April
27-29
This weekend both the Evans Mills Speedway and Can-Am
Speedway cancelled their Big Block racing events due to wet
weather. The 99 team did compete in the 358 division Sunday
at Utica-Rome Speedway. After finishing second in heat race
#3 and starting in the 6th spot, Phelps got into an accident
midway through the race and did not finish the event. The
team's next race will be this Saturday at the Can-Am
Motorsports Park.
Ryan Phelps Adds Name To Powerful Utica-Rome Speedway
field
"The Rocket" Ryan
Phelps has thrown his name into the hat of Utica-Rome
Speedway drivers for the 2007 season. Phelps will pilot a
358-Modifed at the speedway and face what many feel will be
the most star-packed speedway in the northeast. Phelps will
face off every Sunday against a fierce blend of stars from
both the DIRT and ROC circuits including Alan Johnson, Pat
Ward, Bobby Varin, Matt Sheppard, Todd Burley, Jack Johnson,
Mitch Gibbs, Ronnie Johnson, and Stewart Friesen along with
many tough local veterans. "I will miss Cayuga County. I
don't know that we will race there once this year as
Utica-Rome races most every Sunday. Weedsport was probably
my best track, however, I am really glad to be a part of the
Utica-Rome field. Gene Cole is doing many great things for
dirt racing and that is the biggest reason we are proud to
support his race track." Phelps' father, Roger is a former
Utica-Rome Speedway Track Champion.

Team Big Red to Make Return to "Nasty Track" in 2007
The Big
Red Towing 99 will be heading north this season. Ryan will
be racing weekly at the Can-Am Motorsports Park on Saturday
nights and in select shows at the Thunder Alley Speed Park
on Friday evenings. The team also plans to begin the season
following the Super Dirt Series at Hagerstown, MD on March
31st. Although he will miss his fans at the Brewerton and
Fulton Speedways, Ryan is excited to return to Can-Am, where
he cut his teeth in Modified style racing. The speedway's
marketable purse is the biggest draw for the Phelps team.
Ryan also feels this is where he will get the opportunity to
race against the strongest weekly competition.
